Review MAZDA MX-5 SKYACTIV-G 184 6MT | RWD ROADSTER SPORTIVE

"The latest iteration of the Mazda MX-5 has been around for some years now and we think it’s safe to say that through the years the car has been something like a fine wine.
With age it matures and tastes even better, a metaphor that perfectly describes the development and success of the car and has been very much the case with this 1.000 kilogram pocket rocket.
The car started out as a, in essence: basic, no frills, lightweight and fun to drive sportscar that nowadays bears all the hallmarks of a car that sets the standard in this segment and price class. The car sits very low to the ground and its - in this case - beautifully contrasting roof is also set quite low, so getting in and out of the car is a bit of a workout and requires a certain technique.
What I do is I open the drivers’ door, bend my knees a bit and then shove my right leg in all the way up to the throttle pedal then grab the roof with my left hand and the steering wheel with my right hand and then swing my head and upper body in in one fluent motion before then carefully dropping myself the last few inches into the perfect RECARO bucket seats. The seats are covered in leather and Alcantara and provide perfect support for those fast corners that lie ahead.
After the intricate entry procedure you get rewarded with a go-kart like experience. Low to the ground and the car responding to your smallest inputs. If you’ve ever tried go-karting then the Mazda MX-5 will give you a similar feel, especially with the roof down.
The test car we were presented with has a very well chosen color combination of dark grey and a dark beige roof. Especially the grey is a color that perfectly shows the lines and shapes of the design of the bodywork. But a grey mouse this MX-5 certainly isn’t.
This time around we drive the Sport version, which is a package that Mazda calls the ‘Sportive’ in its brochure, but we will name it the Sport from now on.
It features several enhancements that make the car perform better on road and track and lets the driver get the most out of its chassis and performance. It has the already mentioned, fabulous RECARO bucket seats, a 3-way strutbar in the engine compartment offering more rigidity for more stable cornering and less body-roll and 17-inch light alloy wheels in ‘Bright Dark’ which look outstanding. The car also has a very bassy and pretty loud exhaust that delivers a nice symphony all the way up to 7.500 rpm.
So Mazda has found even more ways still, to tweak the lightweight Roadster into having a more performance-minded setup that responds directly to your input which - at the end of the day - is what you want from a Sport version.

    Hello, a big thank you, I love this car, however I have a question: how is it possible that the acceleration is so bad!? It makes 180 hp and only goes from 0 to 100 in 9.5 seconds! My 110 hp 208 does 9.3 seconds lol

    Controversieel uiterlijk, waar men in Nederland niet aan kan wennen, derhalve is het een exclusieve verschijning. Ikzelf vind hem wel heel mooi, het is niet een standaard auto, maar een Prius is de moeder van alle hybrides en daarom het beste wat Toyota te bieden heeft.

    I know it's an old video but the stopwatch is completely off. it's counting way to slow. There's absolutely no way the 308 will do 5.3 sec to 100 haha. I own one and it's even hard to get 6.0 with warm tires and dry road. Also this must be prety steep uphill since the 308 should hit the rev limiter just over 250 with ease. So basically a video with only false information. Both are cool cars though and love my 308.

    This is my first 3 cyl car, 1.0L. Is increible how fast it is, easily reach 150 kph. Low gear is powerful inclusive. Mine is automatic.

    This behaviour is completely normal, what did you expect to see. In fact all those BMW cars featured in your video performed very well in the emergency braking test. You should try a Toyota Corolla or a Hyundai, you’ll know what poor brakes are really like.

    Ik ben al 10 jaar eigenaar en berijder van de Lexus IS 300h en vind hem nog steeds de ideale auto voor iedereen. Hij rijdt en is meer dan 100% comfortabel en enorm betrouwbaar. Heb veel auto’s bereden uit Duitsland ,Italië, Frankrijk,VK maar de Lexus spant toch de Crown. Ik ben dan ook de Lexus ambassadeur en ga diverse evenementen op zetten.
